Montetize Your Writing

In this workshop you’ll learn ways to repurpose your existing writing (whether it’s stand-up comedy bits, short stories, speeches, poetry slams, whatever,) into other media forms that can earn you extra money. This is the same popular workshop that I gave at the 2024 Laugh Riot Grrrl Comedy Festival, in Los Angeles, on Saturday, June 8, which was called How to Use Storytelling to Grow Your Audience and Earn Extra Cash. This workshop was so well attended and received that I decided to offer it again outside of the festival.

The secret to monetizing your written content is to know how to package and sell it on Amazon in various forms of written content. To be clear, we are NOT talking about creating video in this workshop. This workshop is all about how to monetize your written work.

Topics covered in this workshop include:

  • The different types of written content you can publish and sell on Amazon

  • Packaging your content as “short reads” (a new concept on Amazon)

  • How to create a book series on Amazon

  • How to self-publish (in general) on Amazon

Course outline is as follows:

  • The Evolution of Repurposed Writing (How to decide what to repurpose and how to structure it)

  • The Anatomy of an Amazon Book Series (What does it take to create a book series, and is it worth doing?)

  • What CANNOT be an Amazon short read? (Not everything can be repurposed into a book, short read, or book series; the dos and don’ts)

  • Introduction to Amazon Short Reads, and how they benefit comedians

  • Do Short Read Books Sell? (Many think that Amazon “short reads” is the magic bullet to success—it is not, but it can pave the way

  • How to any written content (whether it’s a short read, book series, or a full-size book) on Amazon

I’ll also have available my textbook, “The Memoir Midwife: Nine Steps to Self-Publish Your Book.” This is the textbook I use for the self-publishing classes that I teach at Pasadena City College and Los Angeles Valley College. On Amazon my book retails for $19.95, however, I will have the book available in class for a discounted price of $15 (which is a completely optional purchase).
