Should you seek out a publisher
or self-publish your book?
Being a published author can take your career to the next level or get your message and story out to the world.
So which do you use?
I was confused, too, when the time came to publish my humor book
Back in the day, I had two non-fiction, technical books published by a major publisher, who had originally approached me to write under their imprint. And although the experience was not bad, that publisher's model didn't fit the mold when it came to releasing my humorous book of essays. I shopped my manuscript around to several publishers, some of whom agreed to read my work, but the process wasn't moving along fast enough for my taste.
Up to that point I had helped several of my clients self-publish their books, so I finally decided to self-publish my own, and in April of 2011, my book "Confessions of a Band Geek Mom," came out under Saffire Press, my own little publishing company imprint. By November 2011, "Confessions of a Band Geek Mom" was a bestselling humor book on Amazon.
This all happened before the any of the publishers I'd contacted got back to me. And now suddenly they were interested because my book was selling.
I continued to help my clients get their books published through either traditional publishers or self-publishing (depending on their circumstances), and in January of 2015 I self-published "The Memoir Midwife: Nine Steps to Self-Publishing Your Book," which has become a de facto standard primer for those who wish to self-publish. Plus, I taught self-publishing for five years at the University of Utah's Life Long Learning Center.
What I discovered as a result of this journey is that neither traditional publishing, nor self-publishing is the ultimate answer for every author. One size does not fit all, in this case. There are pros and cons to both, and the publishing option any author chooses depends on several factors, including:
The author's longterm goals for their book
How much time and money the author has to devote to the publishing and marketing of their book
How fast the author wants to get the book published and in the hands of the public
Unearthing all the pros and cons of traditional and self-publishing in relation to YOUR situation does not have to be a time-consuming, fact-finding mission during which you disappear down rabbit hole after rabbit hole on the Internet.
I'm all about the path of least resistance and giving a leg up to those traveling the path behind me. I want your publishing experience for you and your book to be so fantastic, that you can't wait to get back out there and publish your follow-up book...and maybe even more books after that.
Armed with the right tools and knowledge of both traditional and self-publishing, you'll be able to make the best decisions possible when it comes to publishing your book.

TESTIMONIALS
"I first attended one of Stacy’s seminars on how to self-publish. I then purchased her book and when I had my manuscript written. I hired Stacy to guide me through the process. All three of these steps increased my confidence in my pursuit to be an author. But her biggest contribution to my book was her guidance in showing me how to personalize my message. It made my book much easier to read and resonate with the reader. Her help shortened the time it took for me to turn my book into a finished product."

"When Stacy and I started working together, I had no idea that publishing a book was so complex. Her guidance was the difference between my book sitting in a folder on my hard drive, and it actually getting published in both English and Spanish, hard copies, Kindle, you name it!"

"Thanks to Stacy, I am now a three-time self-published author. Her publishing class, book (“The Memoir Midwife: Nine Steps to Self-Publishing Your Book”), and continual guidance and support gave me the tools, and most importantly, the confidence to take on this venture.
"Without her, I would have fumbled, spent way too much time trying to figure out what to do, and would have given up. Actually, I wouldn’t have even started, because I had no idea what the self-publishing world really looked like and I would have been too intimidated to dive into it blindly."

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What if I haven't written, or finished writing, my book yet. Is it too soon for me to take a webinar about how to publish my book?
A: No, not at all. In fact, determining how your are going to publish your book before your book is written is extremely helpful if you choose to use a publisher. Because if you're lucky enough to presell your book before it's finished, your publisher can give you story-development guidance while you're still writing. And if you decide to self-publish while you're writing you can plan your publishing budget now and develop a writing schedule that coincides with when you'll have money available to publish your book.
Q: Does this webinar give me names of publishers I can contact about publishing my book?
A: No. Instead, it shares the general practices of how an average traditional publisher does business with an author. It's up to you to do the research to find publishers that you think you might want to work with. But when you do, you'll know what to expect from them as a result of taking this webinar.
Q: After I sign up, do I have to watch this webinar at a certain date and time?
A: No. This is a prerecorded webinar of a live online class I did entitled Traditional Publishing vs Self Publishing: The Pros and Cons of Both. It gives you the exact same information that I give my students in my live courses, except here you can watch the course in the comfort of your own home, any time of the day or night.
Q: Can I watch the webinar more than once?
A: Yes! The webinar will be available to you to watch as many times as you like for the next 30 days.
Q: Can I share the webinar login credentials so my friends so they can watch it, too?
A: No. Your login credentials will only work for you. Plus, more than one person cannot be logged into your account at the same time. The price of this webinar is so low compared to the value the student gets, that it's worth it for your friends to sign up for their own login accounts so they can get this valuable information at their convenience, as well.
